Why Your Garage Door Opener Matters

For most homes the garage door is the front door people use every day, and the opener is what makes it work. It lifts a door that often weighs 150 to 350 pounds several times a day, so a weak or failing opener is more than an inconvenience.

A healthy opener keeps your home secure: it locks the door down when closed, and modern openers use rolling security codes so a remote signal can't be copied. It keeps your family safe: photo-eye sensors and auto-reverse stop the door if a child, pet or car is in the way. And it protects the rest of the system, since an opener that strains or jerks the door puts extra wear on the springs, cables and rollers.

Why Your Garage Door Opener Matters

Security

Rolling-code remotes and a door that stays locked down when closed.

Safety

Photo-eye sensors and auto-reverse that stop the door before it hits anything.

Convenience

Open, close and check the door from your phone, and get alerts if it's left open.

Less wear

Smooth, even lifting that's easier on springs, cables and rollers.

Repair or Replace Your Opener?

Many opener problems are simple fixes. Our technician will diagnose it and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether you'd be putting money into an opener that's near the end of its life.

Usually worth repairing

  • The opener is less than about 10 years old
  • Remote or keypad stopped working, or needs reprogramming
  • Safety sensors are misaligned, dirty or have a damaged wire
  • The motor runs but the door doesn't move (often a worn drive gear or sprocket)
  • Loose or stretched chain or belt
  • Door reverses on its own and the force/travel limits need adjusting

Usually time to replace

  • The opener is 10 to 15+ years old and breaking down repeatedly
  • No photo-eye safety sensors (common on very old units)
  • The repair would cost close to half the price of a new opener
  • Loud chain drive you'd like to swap for a quiet belt or wall-mount
  • You want smart-phone control, a camera or battery backup for outages
  • You're installing a new, heavier insulated door that needs more lifting power

Not sure which one you need? Book a service visit: we'll inspect the opener and the door together, since a problem that looks like the opener is sometimes a broken spring or cable.

Garage Door Openers We Install

These are the openers we currently install. Every one is a Chamberlain smart opener with a quiet belt drive or a wall-mounted design, set up with the myQ app before we leave.

Chamberlain 1/2 HP Smart Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

Chamberlain 1/2 HP Smart Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

Quiet belt drive with battery backup and myQ smart control. A dependable, budget-friendly choice for single-car doors and standard-weight double doors. The steel-reinforced belt runs much quieter than a chain, which matters if there's a bedroom above or next to the garage. Battery backup keeps the door working during a power outage, and the myQ app lets you open, close and check the door from your phone.

Chamberlain 3/4 HP Smart Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

Chamberlain 3/4 HP Smart Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

3/4 HP belt drive with a built-in camera and motion-sensing wall control. Extra lifting power for heavier insulated and double-car doors, with less strain on the motor over time. The camera lets you see inside the garage from the myQ app, which is handy for confirming the door actually closed or for watching package deliveries. The motion-sensing wall control turns the light on automatically when you walk in.
